The katakuchi was originally a workshop object — a vessel for decanting. In the tea and sake world it became something else: a piece whose single spout dictates the entire rhythm of a gathering. This one stood directly in the flame path. The ash that fell on its shoulder liquefied and ran, then froze mid-descent when the kiln was sealed. That white river is glass made of nothing but pine ash and clay.
