Bizen figurines predate Bizen tea ware. Before the tea masters arrived, the kilns of Okayama produced roof tiles, mortars and small votive animals. This cat continues that older lineage: no glaze, no paint, nothing but clay taken to the point where it can survive centuries. Sold with a signed kiri-wood box and a silk cord.
