The most technically demanding object in the Bizen repertoire. Lid and body must be thrown and fired as one so that fourteen days of shrinkage leaves them still matched — a tolerance measured in fractions of a millimetre with no glaze to hide behind. Inside, the maker drills the strainer wall by hand. The iron in the clay begins conditioning your tea from the first brew, binding a portion of the tannins that carry bitterness.
